This beautiful bear fetish is hand carved by renowned Zuni artist Leland Boone. The bear, carved entirely from a piece of Honey Onyx, is holding a fish in its mouth made of Mother of Pearl. Both the bear and the fish have inlaid eyes of Turquoise.
According to Zuni mythology, the Bear fetish is the Guardian of the West and has the power to heal and transform human passions into true wisdom. The fresh, unique character of this Bear certainly seems to lift the spirit.
Leland Boone is one of Zuni's most established fetish carvers. Having learned the art of carving from his mother, he and his wife, Daphne Quam, now work together in their studio in Zuni.
