Hopi Hano Mana (Tewa Girl) Kachina by Wilmer Kaye

Product Description

Hand Carved from cottonwood root this Graceful Hano Mana Katsina is wrapped in an embroidered wedding robe under which is a traditional black dress. Wilmer is well known for the Perfection of his Katsina dolls and carvings. Willard Loloma (Kaye's Uncle) taught him to carve when he was only a teen- Wilmer is also the nephew of famed Hopi jeweler, Charles Loloma. He was born in 1952 and is a member of the badger/butterfly clan. He began carving in 1965 and continued to carve after completing high school while working as a mason. He uses only a pocket knife for his carving and only works on one doll at a time so that he can concentrate on making it look it's best. His Intricate carvings have won many awards and have been seen on the cover of Arizona Highways magazine. This doll is commonly carved to be given to the young girls as their first or second gift during the Katsina dances. Beautiful work of art- Order it now and Discover the Magic of Hopi Katsinas. Signed Wilmer Kaye.
