A Hopi Crow Mother Kachina by Jerome Nequatewa. The stance of this Kachina radiates the poise and grace of a Mother. Green, Red and Turquoise hues add flair to this figure of stability.
While Kachinas are walking upon the earth during the winter and summer solstices, The Crow Mother makes her appearance- a maternal symbol, considered a guide and role model for all others.
Half Hopi, half Zuni Jerome Nequatewa was raised with the knowledge of the culture and customs of both Pueblos. He was taught to carve by his father, the late Harold Nequatewa and each one of his very detailed Kachinas is hand carved. Nequatewa finishes his work using a wood burner and hand-painting each minute detail.
