Zuni Artist Georgette Lunasee injects originality and modernity to the traditional Zuni Bear. Lunasee etches across the broad back of the Bear to create texture and contrast between the glossy finish of the main and ‘fuzzy’ rough of the back.
Recognised as the Guardian of the West, the Bear is associated with great strength, power, healing and self- knowledge. He is a spiritual guide and has supernatural powers. This piece has a particularly kind face, stance, and an uplifting aura.
Georgette Lunasee is from the Quam family, who have carved Zuni Fetish for generations. She is now married to carver Reynold Lunasee and is often referred to as Georgette Quam Lunasee.
