A wonderfully formed Mountain Lion Fetish by Zuni duo Rosella & Loubert Soseeah. The carving is thoughtfully shaped to express the strength and power of the Mountain Lion. Thick thighs and a bold long tail communicate strength, while curves throughout indicate a feline femininity. The slight bow of the Mountain Lion head suggests an element of kindness and modesty. The Ammonite body of the figure has an almost ‘eggshell’ like regularity to its natural pattern; circular fossil detail edged by pale strains.
Part of the Zuni Religion, Zuni Fetish Carvings represent the animal spirit thought to reside in the stone. The Zuni Mountain Lion is believed to be the most powerful hunter and is associated with both providing and healing. To many collectors, the Mountain Lion embodies qualities of perseverance, ambition and confidence.
